    In reply to: Removing Header Menu

    Kay
    Cryout Creations mastermind

    Hi Amart and thank you for the feedback!

    1. If no menu is choosen for the header menu it defaults to displaying all published pages. To go around that simply create an empty menu and assign it to the Header Navigation (create a new menu and don’t add any items to it, name it, then save).

    2. Thanks, you just found a bug. It seems that there’s an error when the landing page is empty (just the banner) and that affects the header text animation. We’ll fix this in the next update (a few hours).

    Good luck!

    The manual excerpts take precedence over automatically-generated excerpts everywhere on the site, including the landing page.
    It’s only the auto-generated excerpts that follow the length options, according to the location they are displayed in; manual excerpts are always displayed in full.

    All boxes sections are handled by the same code so they cannot behave differently.

    Hi,
    Note that if you have set manual excerpts for posts, the manual excerpts are always displayed as they are (in full and with all the markup).
    The length options only apply to automatically-generated excerpts (for posts and landing page boxes)

    Hi,
    WordPress appears to limit the screen sizes on which the video is displayed.
    Additionally, when set to work this way the theme uses the header image at full screen height, which doesn’t work well when a header video is assigned but not active. We’ll look into better handling this behaviour in the next theme update.
    Until then try applying the following custom CSS:

    @media (max-width: 900px) {
        body.bravada-fullscreen-headerimage.bravada-cropped-headerimage #masthead #header-image-main-inside {
            height: auto;
        }
    }

    All our themes are released under the GPLv3 license, which means you can use (and abuse) them in any way you see fit, including adding, editing or removing parts of them, including the footer link.

    There is the side-effect, however, of us not providing free support if our credit link is removed. The commercial Plus edition of the theme does not come with such a link displayed by default (and has the built-in option to easily set your own text instead).

    Hi,

    The theme displays the configured number of boxes at all times; there is no built-in ‘more’ functionality to dynamically show additional boxes. Only the featured content section when set to display the latest posts has this ability.

    I’m sorry for the very delayed reply, your topic was held for additional review and didn’t get published on the site.

    Concerning the reported issue, I am not seeing this behaviour on the theme’s demo (which displays the top menu in the same location):

    I see you use a mega-menu plugin on your site for that menu location – I suggest trying to turn it off and use the default menu functionality to check if the issue is still present.

    Thanks, Kay!

    I upgraded from 0.9 to 1.0.0.1 and unfortunately, some pages are still not displaying all images – with Chrome. Example page:
    https://vanessablaylock.xyz/blog/medici-university-herculini-crater/

    All images did display fine with Firefox, and they still do.

    Lazy load is a great idea in principle. In my limited experience, it seems to do the opposite of what’s intended and yields a poor performing website. I’ve started taking Jetpack off of as many websites as I can, but for those that must have it, I make sure Lazy Load is OFF. (the site in question does not use Jetpack)

    Thank you so much, of all your fantastic themes, I think Bravada is the most glorious yet!

    The posts previous/next navigation is controlled by the theme’s respective option: https://www.cryoutcreations.eu/docs/themes/options/general/structure/#single-post-prevnext-pagination

    The left/right display mode use JavaScript for the animation effects, and having JS issues on the site can cause them to fail.

    Without a site link I cannot check for myself to see if I can pinpoint the cause.

    All our customize-based themes are capable of displaying the slider full width as part of the landing page feature. The rest of the site content is always constrained to the configured site width and would require a custom template to allow the content to span outside the limit.
    The Plus edition of the themes already includes such a template.

    None of our themes display the images inside the content in single post pages (some of them are able to use the featured images as replacements for the header image). Adding the image to the content manually gives better control over how and where this is displayed – this would only work with new sites.

    I recently wrote a mini-plugin to add such functionality to one of our themes, available here.

    To make it work with Tempera, however, you’ll need to adjust its placement action hook to cryout_before_content_hook or cryout_post_before_content_hook (or both to cover both posts and pages) instead of the used one.

    Zed

    I believe we have discussed this through the priority support service.

    For anyone else having the same question: featured images are only displayed in (posts) lists – blog, categories, archives, search results. On single post or page sections the images can be included in the content at the appropriate desired location.

    Separately, the theme is capable of using the featured image instead of the header image – this requires the activation of a general header image and large enough featured images (the size condition can be disabled, though).

    Thanks for the tip, @MarieDorange!
    I gave it a try… first post I looked at was good… but the 2nd post was still not displaying all images.
    Oh well! 🙂

    Hi,
    Thank you for trying to help me.

    On the homepage, the items that are displayed properly are the recent articles and the menu items. What does not show is the logo, the header image, the site description and any translation such as the Read more Label.

    Looking forward to reading you

    WordPress does not include functionality to randomize the order widgets get displayed in.
    This article provides an example for doing this with code. The theme’s widget area location for the columns uses the presentation-page-columns-area identifier.

    That button is added by the theme when the site uses excerpts. There’s no direct option to hide it and it shouldn’t be displayed in that particular location anyway, but you can hide it with a bit of CSS:

    .iw-so-blog .iw-so-article-excerpt + p {
        display: none;
    }

    In WordPress each site section is uniquely identifiable with a classname. You can add custom styling that applies only on the desired sections (pages, posts, archives), for example:

    .page-id-321 a#logo {
        display: none;
    }

    The lighter, border-only button is displayed by the theme, while the second button is added by a plugin. Since you use CSS optimizations on the site, I cannot guess which plugin it is specifically, but the button is identified with .iw-so-article-button

    Category/archive descriptions are displayed in the same container with the category/archive title and both get removed when the titles are hidden via the theme’s options.

    In reply to: Blurry featured images

    Zed
    Cryout Creations mastermind

    Newly uploaded and set featured images get cropped according to the theme’s current configuration.
    Existing images are displayed at their closest existing crop or full size (since they do not have the specific size crops). Unless the source images are already blurry, just cropping them to size will not make them more blurry. However, large images shrunk to fit in smaller size might appear crispier than their 100% zoomed counterparts.

    You can configure the theme to disable cropping and display featured images in full all the time (with the downside of using the larger image files).

    Generally images cannot change colors – the SVG format has some limited capabilities, but for security reasons it is not currently officially supported by WordPress (although there are plugins that force this support).

    Additionally, neither the theme nor WordPress provide functionality to define multiple logo images (and then perhaps alternate between them based on specific events).

    The logo image is displayed both over the static banner image and the menu bar on scroll. For best results it would need to have a color scheme that works on both these backgrounds. All three elements: the logo image, the static banner image and the header menu background color are configurable and need to be set to values that work together.

    Any text displayed on the site that doesn’t come from administrable content (content, menus, widgets, so on) is either part of the theme or WordPress and can be customized using translations:

    The blocks appearance and layout is controlled by WordPress’ built-in blocks styling.
    I notice on the about page that Liz’s block is properly displayed on mobile (being set to vertically align) while all the others have their images enlarged full width (because they’re set to vertically stack on mobile).
    You might want to look into adjusting the appearance options.

    The header is a site-wide feature and cannot be selectively displayed just through the included options and functionality. You could hide it on the non-home pages with some custom CSS, though:

    body:not(.home) #masthead #header-image-main-inside {
        height: 0;
    }

    Keep in mind that the header image also holds the header titles and header widget area and will vanish with it.

    The display mode is dependent on the aspect ratio of the used image in comparison to the area it is displayed in. The image is almost square while it needs to be displayed in a wide rectangle (the screen), leading to vertical cropping.

    I suggest using an image with a similar aspect ratio as the area it is displayed in.

    If you need to display different texts for a particular page in its title location and menu item, you can do that by using a custom menu, which removes the limitation of the menu item using the same text as the page title.

    If instead you would want to display different texts in the page’s title location and in the browser title (for example), this task you can do using a SEO plugin capable of filtering/overriding the titles.

    If you have not created nor assigned any specific menus, the theme will display WordPress’ default auto-generated pages menu in its main navigation area.
    If you don’t a menu there, create an empty custom menu and assign it to that location.
