Hi,

The pagination is not used on the homepage when the theme’s landing page feature is used (and it displays the regular posts list). With the landing page the theme adds a dynamic “load more posts” button instead.

Hi,

Using a fixed header menu (100px high) and footnotes in posts or pages.

When you click on a footnote reference, the page scrolls down to the footnote, but the text is hidden under the menu bar… You then have to scroll the display a little to bring the footnote down so you can read it.

The same thing happens when returning to the text from the footnote: the display scrolls back to the original text, but it is then hidden under the menu bar!

How can this be avoided? JavaScript code?

Hi,

Suddenly there is a problem and I have no idea how to solve this, maybe you can help me? Because i do not know notting about code.

The problem occurs when placing photos, but a possible empty line also disappears, not everytime.

Placing a single photo of approx, 1024×768, the white line disappears, but the photos are also displayed ‘reduced’, which is not neat.

The first photo is displayed large, but not in 1024×768 it suddenly becomes 300×188

Placing a WP gallery of 5 photos works fine, but here too the white space disappears.

Photo 3 is also displayed reduced and despite its own size 1024×768 suddenly has the size 300×225.

Just like 5 years ago, but I don’t remember how we solved it then. The post is not online because of the errors! And can’t send the screenshots.

Hi,

Since upgrading to latest WordPress version 6.8.1, Continue reading buttons displayed differently. In a ‘Category page with intro’ templated page it is the same as before: https://portasecula.hu/category/termek/
However in a normal page with posts queried and listed, the button is missing and only the excerpt “Read more” link can be added to have the similar functionality. https://portasecula.hu/napfeny-mindig/

What can I do to fix this?

Thank you for asking. This turns out to be not so much a bug as a question of conflicting features. It turns out that if you use the controls in your excellent Parabola Settings system to set the total width to an unusually narrow value, the The Events Calendar silently shifts to smart phone mode and does not display the expected front-side controls based on the settings selected for The Events Calendar. This appeared to be a bug in your theme because changing to a different theme made the problem go away, but that’s only because by changing to a different theme also turned off the display settings for Parabola. If there is a bug here, I’d say it’s on The Events Calendar side for not better documenting this issue, but they were at least very helpful with tracing the issue. So, sorry to bother you with this issue but thank you for following up.

Hi,

You can use any plugin that lets you filter/change the way posts are displayed on the standard blog homepage (the theme simply extends that WordPress feature so any query changes applied to the regular blog homepage will also apply in the theme’s landing page posts list).

Hello, my site’s header menu is completely broken: all the pages of the website are displayed, and the social media meno on the footer just disappeared.
It was working correctly so far, with a selection of pages to display set up in the back office. Now, all the pages on my site are visible, even though I’ve configured the pages I want to display in the back office.
In the front office, the menu with all the pages is still displayed, even if I deleted all the menus in the back office.
Now, because I clearly can’t have a website with such a bad navigation, I had to use css code to hide all the pages I don’t want to show, but I am very upset to face this kind of issue.

The fonts responsible for displaying the icons are implemented via a http and not via https could this be the reason.

I implemented the Nirvana Theme and I was wondering if I could somehow replace the images of my slider on my presentation with a video. By default images are the only media i can display in those sliders, but is there a way to show a video?

Hi everyone and sorry about the delay with a clarification.

As the warning message displayed by the security plugin itself reads,
this makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages

Due to sub-optimal/missing sanitization to the get_the_author() calls used by the theme, this issue can affect (larger) websites if rogue registered users (contributor/editor levels and above are needed) decide to insert unwanted content in their user name fields.

 

Personally, I find it weird that it’s the theme’s responsibility for sanitizing this data since it’s a core WordPress function returning database-stored content. If that field is not expected to store advanced HTML markup then WordPress should perform the proper level of sanitization/filtering on save.

To be clear, the theme does not handle any saving or input processing for this data, it only displays whatever WordPress already has saved in the database for the user name field, which has passed WordPress existing sanitization rules when that data was saved through the dashboard by users with sufficient permissions on the site.

 

This code has been in our themes in the same or very similar form since their launch (starting with Mantra back in 2009) and we have yet to have any kind of reports about XSS exploits through this route – frankly, if a rogue registered user with sufficient access decides to embed bad content on the site, the user name field is the least of your worries (and most likely not the first target).

This is only now popping up now because a security tester bulk reported the insufficient sanitization to patchstack.com (a large vulnerabilities testing/disclosing database which also offers paid security services), and several security plugins are taking inspiration for their lists of things to monitor from there.

 

Regardless of circumstances, we’ll be hardening the sanitization around the several get_the_author() function calls used in our themes, but since this issue is considered low severity/priority even by the patchstack.com report, we’ll be addressing it in the regular¹ theme updates cycle as we get to them¹ – for example, the correction is already present in the Bravada 1.1.3 update released yesterday.

¹ Mr. Kay had a different plan so you may already notice updates out there addressing this.

 

Status update: As of January 24th 2025, all our themes received updates to harden sanitization on author name output function calls.

I too am supposed to have priority support. I’ve filed 2 support tickets in the past few months and have heard nothing back. In my case, a few of the themes are giving me an error when displaying the landing page and I’ve got “display comments” enabled. I’ve been able to produce some work arounds with CSS hiding the “itemprop” link for now but I would like the comment link displayed without diving in to the the theme files. I’m used to working through the child.

Running debugging, I can see there’s deprecated code running $(var). It’s now ($var). I can see it in the serious slider plugin, cryout featured content plugin, and few things in the themes throwing more errors.

I am a developer… but I run these themes so I will have less to worry about. I too am hoping nothing serious has happened to Zed. He was in the habit of replying almost immediately to my support tickets. I had some hope when I saw the update (someone there is working), but I still haven’t heard from support and my issues weren’t addressed in the update.

I may have to start looking elsewhere before my renewal comes up. I too have several websites to worry about.

Very cool theme, but recently received a critical alert from Google Search Console that there is a missing ‘author’ field. This seems to apply to the Comments on a post, not the actual post. There is author information displayed for the original post and the comments/discussion, but Google does not recognise this. Also have an advisory warning that ‘Comment’ object must be nested inside a ‘CreativeWork’ object.

I an only a hobby user and not a programmer so cannot help you unfortunately but I have had a similar problem in Parabola for a couple of weeks now. I too have been happily using Parabola for our astronomy club’s website for eons and until recently, it has worked fine on all platforms. The desktop version is fine, responsiveness and zoom are enabled as they have been for years. Now, in mobile, our main/presentation page is dropping the third column. On normal pages with a right sidebar, the main content has been radically shortened in width, not readable and lots of white space right, while the sidebar content, which is now displayed below the white space, looks normal. I have touched nothing that I can think of to cause this.

I have tried disabling plugins (and no new plug ins have been added recently/ since it was working) but so far that has not helped either, so I don’t think that is the problem. Our hosting provider has recently updated everyone to a new version of wordpress and new php version – so I am guessing that is what the problem is, especially in light of your post. I have sent in a support request but no answer as yet (it has only been hours – not complaining). To be continued…

I’m trying to use a sitewide notification, and several plugins can display beautifully on desktop but not on mobile. I thought perhaps Parabola (which I’ve been using for eons, bought way back) was too old to handle the hook so I tried Bravada, but it did not display on mobile either. However Twenty Twenty Four displays the message on mobile, so it’s not an issue of faulty plugins. Can anyone help me to get this visible on mobile? Thanks!

I have Resovoir and my logo will not display.
also with my woocommerce the logo image link has been added to woo settings yet the theme overrides this and only takes the site title text from the theme and not woocommerce settings. very frustrating.

Carrie, I found a workaround to make that text go away.

Go into Appearance, Customize, then when in the Customizer, go to Post Information, Meta Information, and uncheck the box for Display Comments.

Disabling that option will make the itemprop=”discussionURL” text go away, but it also takes away the count of how many comments are on each post. If you can live with losing that number, you can get rid of the text that is showing up now.

Hopefully someone fixes this as this is almost certainly only the beginning of more defects that will show up as WordPress is updated, but these themes are not.

I can help:
1. Enter your appearance editor and make sure you are on the homepage.
2. Navigate to Landing Page/Slider.
3. Scroll down in Slider tab until you get to the bottom.
You should see four prompts in two pairs. Each pair called CTA Button #(corresponding number).
4. Remove the “Read more” and “See more”.
5. That should be it! 🙂

If you ever want to use these buttons, the Title is what they display on the looks and the second prompt is the link they go to.

Hello again,

The menu has no background color options when it’s in over header image mode. Tweaks to its appearance can then only be done with CSS.

Also, any options indicating they apply to the main navigation will in fact apply to the menu displayed when using the toggler/hamburger icon as that is Bravada’s main menu.
The menu always visible in the header is the supplementary header navigation (which has fewer control options). The header navigation inherits the general typography options. Tweaking it will also require custom styling.

Hi,

In WordPress, the “blog” special section is designed to display latest posts regardless of other attributes (categories, metas, authors). There are no built-in filtering options for this section, but there are plugin that can add such filters.

Concerning journal posts, it depends on how those are created. If those are just regular posts, then simply creating a category page would limit the list to posts belonging to the specific journal category. If those are a separate custom post type, than those would need their separate frontend code (dedicated templates) to handle their display.
