Logo and Header Image, Translation works only half way

    Hi,
I use Verbosa for a frien who set up an website in French.

I needed to translate the Continue Reading label for him, first tried with Loco Translate (and it did not work although I had translated the proper string), eventually found out that this translation could be done through a specific field in the theme settings. And it works only half way: when I am in the customization panel, the translation does show up; but after saving my modification and closing the customization panel, I still find the Continue Reading label in English. More generally speaking, the page opening when I do the customization seems to be different from the actual homepage. Could you tell me why and help me solve these problems?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi,
I install Verbosa and a friend’s website and keep stumbling on 2 problems:

    – I changed the site’image in Site Identity but it makes no difference: the typewriter image still shows;
    – when I try to customize the theme, the home page appears on the right, I make some changes, save them but again no changes ‘image or logo) when I close the customization panel and switch to the actual homepage.

I don’t understand the behaviour of Verbosa in that respect. Could you help, please?

I see the header image is changed now on the site.
If you’re having problems with the site preview in the customize screen not updating after making configuration changes, that can be due to multiple causes. I suggest checking of and disabling any form of caching (if you’re using one), temporarily disable active plugins (in case one of them is interfering with the customizer) and/or try the same process with a different browser (to check if it’s perhaps related to browser caching).

    Hi,

Thanks for this quick answer, I appreciate that. I changed the image by modifying it right on the server as I couldn’t change it through the customization panel.

I tested the caching plugins, but no change. One more thing I don’t understand: I inserted a logo and a header image, I can see the logo in the optimization panel but again not on the home page. How come?

    Thanks for your help.

Please ignore the previous reply. It was just a spam message.

If you’re still having issues with the logo or other media not updating on the site, please test if these update correctly while temporarily switching to one of the (newer) default Twenty themes.

    Hi, Zed
I tried your solution… but no difference. I installed and activated the 2020 theme, chose a logo, saw the different modifications while in the customization panel (Header Image, Site’s name and description, Read More label translated into French).

Never had these kinds of problems with a WordPress theme. What can be the problem? Please, help me solve it, it’s driving me crazy!

    Thanks for your help

If you’re seeing different content between when you’re logged in onto the site and when not, then that’s most certainly an indication of caching in action.
Be aware that if you also use a multilingual plugin (such as Polylang or WPML) the plugin is capable of filtering the theme’s options to translate them.

    Hi,
Thanks for your answer… which does not help me solve the problem.

Even when there is no caching plugin, the problem remains the same.

As for the translating problem, the problem is not the translation (it works just fine with Loco Translate), but the fact that it does not implement on the homepage (just like the logo or header image does not appear on the home page).

We’re turning in circles… please help me find the solution!

The site clearly uses caching, even though you claim it doesn’t – the various resources being loaded from cache/autoptimize/ and the source getting minified are an indication for this.

Does the homepage reflect any other changes beside logo/header image and translations correctly?

    Hi,
Thank you for trying to help me.

On the homepage, the items that are displayed properly are the recent articles and the menu items. What does not show is the logo, the header image, the site description and any translation such as the Read more Label.

    Looking forward to reading you

I suggest to first disable caching (which clearly is or was enabled on the site).
If you do not currently have any caching plugins installed, you may have removed it before disabling/clearing the cache and left the site in a unexpected state. Reinstall the previously used plugin and use its functionality to clear the caching and then to disable caching.
The code/files structures indicates the plugin to be Autoptimize, but this is just a guess.

    Hi,

I eventually found out what the problem was: when customizing, I was recording my changes whereas they needed to be published to appear on the homepage, an option i did not have on other themes. That settles it, then.

Thanks for your patience and your time
