    Hi.. I’m not sure if this was answered but I also have a search bar across my homepage that I want to remove, as well as “Nothing found no search results for’. How do I remove this search bar? Thanks

    Hi,

    Neither WordPress itself nor Anima provide such functionality built-in, however it is possible for a plugin to implement it.

    Thanks for the information. Enabling/disabling the scroll doesn’t affect the issue either way. Will keep searching.

    Thank you Zed! I’ll look into shortcodes. By the way, the other theme (Atahualpa) didn’t use the expressions [current year] and [website name] as such; sorry, I should have said {current year} and {website name}, to indicate that those were variables. So the actual statement I have there currently is

    Copyright © 2021 davidweiss.net – All Rights Reserved
    Powered by WordPress & Atahualpa

    I don’t know how Atahualpa updates the year automatically, and I can not longer access the theme’s settings (One of the recent WordPress updates “broke” the theme), to try to figure it out. I suppose I can search through the source files.

    But in terms of implementing something similar in Mantra, shortcodes sounds like a good way to do that, since they’re supported in the footer text field. But if there’s a better way, since I don’t necessarily have to use shortcodes, let me know!

    I notice the site still uses the theme’s example header image – as can be seen on the search page (which doesn’t have a configurable header image).

    If you’re comparing the blog section’s header with that of the homepage note that the homepage, as currently configured, does not display the header image – but the different banner image – in its slider section.

    Update on the Menu Question:
    It turns out that the menu has more problems.
    1.) Using a computer with a monitor I discovered that the menu will extend out of the window. So not all of it is readable/available. The way to overcome this problem is to make the window narrow so that the little ‘hamburger’ icon appears. Then the full menu is available…under the caveats mention in the first post on this subject (above).
    2.) On larger screens the number if menu items is limited by the fact that if there are a large number they will form two rows…and the bottom rows will cover the first entry from the menu item above it. I have played with the menu and modified it so that there is only one row. Unfortunately, I have to hide the site icon in order to get the menu all the way to the left. If I could do that, it would probably work much like the menu in Mantra. I don’t want to remove the site icon, since everyone knows that clicking on it will return to the home page.

    None of this is acceptable. I have put a ton of time into making Fluida work, only now I discover that the menu system is highly flawed. I am really glad I did not purchase the Plus version.

    So far: Mantra has the best menu system of the themes I have used. I don’t like Verbosa’s system. (see https://foreverstone.alwaysrejoicing.com and you’ll know why.) Parabola had a good system, but it won’t work on certain iPhones. Now Fluida’s menu system is highly flawed.

    The time spent implementing Fluida is not totally wasted, as I learned much about themes from the process. So, I guess I’ll have to search for another theme. Ultimately, this is my fault. I should have spent more time testing the menu system before I chose to implement the theme. Lesson Learned.

    Hi,
    In Bravada the main navigation cannot be completely disabled. You can assign an empty custom menu to the main navigation area to turn off the display of a menu, however the burger icon will remain displayed to provide access to the search form, social icons and the Side widget area.

    You can, of course, display posts lists inside (static) pages, but the theme’s job is generally taking care of how the content looks, not where it comes from or which one it is. It is more of a task up for plugins to provide additional widgets and/or shortcodes to let you choose what content is displayed where beyond the default functionality of WordPress.
    You can go along two paths for this:
    – search for a plugin that lets you customize categories appearance (header/background) separately from the rest of the site and make use of WordPress’ built-in post filtering capabilities.
    – search for a plugin that lets you display posts list inside pages – but since this is beyond default functionality the plugin will also be in control of the posts’ appearance there.

    UPDATE:

    Found the relevant piece of code:

    if ( ‘posts’ == get_option( ‘show_on_front’ ) ) {
    include( get_home_template() );
    } else {

    Tried removing it, and it will delete the the “Nothing Found
    No search results for:” text although also prevents me from adding any other text I want through the text widget.

    I there some piece of code you can help me with that hides only the “Nothing found…”?

    Searched most forums here, seems css code for other themes, works also well for Anima.
    Tested, works also with Roseta.
    Remove white space between content and footer:
    article.hentry, .main .content-widget {
    display: block;
    position: relative;
    margin-bottom: 0em;
    }

    Hi Zed,
    You’re wondering why I’d want to have more than one Posts Page. Here’s why:
    My website is where I publish my short stories, essays and poetry. The perfect thing would be for me to have a different “look” for each category. For example, the picture in the Short Story header, the background, etc. would be different. One for stories, one for essays, and so forth.
    I actually thought about having a different sub-domain for each one, but that means lots of extra maintenance, I think.
    Fluida has the option in the PLUS version to have different templates for pages. I think this means that these templates make it easier to design pages like “Log In” or “About Always Rejoicing” or such. Now, this is probably a WordPress.org question, but, after reading your answer, I’m wondering if I could set up a page with a template and a widget that would display the “Poetry” category…??? The “BLOCKS” on the Landing Page do this. I’ve set up my test site with the category “Favorites” and now I can have a block on the Landing Page that displays the stories in my “Favorites” category. I really, really like that very much.
    Parabola has the “Categories” widget that I use as a menu device. But the Blocks in Fluida work so much better. (BTW…it’s because Parabola has problems on the iPhones that I started searching for another theme. I’m sure you’ll fix it. But I began to realize that my design looked dated. That started me searching for the ‘perfect’ theme for me.)
    I wish I could test the PLUS version, but I understand that if I download the theme and it ‘does not fit’ I can’t ‘return’ it like I would a shirt or jeans.
    It looks like I will have to subscribe to the extra support, as I’m starting to produce a ton of questions.
    Thanks for answering my question.

    Hi Kay. Thank you for this!

    Yes, there are a lot of different types of saxophones. To be fair though, my site is one of the largest saxophone sites on the Net. Between this site, and its related blog-style site, there are about 5,000 pages of WP material. FYI, my site goes back to 2008, that’s why it is so content rich.

    I ended up increasing to 10,000px and it could maybe even go higher still. Why?

    Because if a person browsing the right drop down navigation menu doesn’t close the arrows for the child pages they have already opened up, even at 10,000 they could end up at over-lapping text as they continue browsing child pages further down in the menu.

    On an unrelated, but still navigation issue, I updated the theme last night to the new version. I was happy to see that suddenly a navigation menu appeared in the header.

    There is a small problem with this though. When an header image is present, the only option for menu position is “Over header image”. If “Normal” is chosen, child pages vanish behind the image.

    However, if “Over the header image” is chosen–like I have currently chosen on my site–then some pages are covered up by the Search box and are not visible. Furthermore, the Search box is rendered unusable, because moving the curser over it, in effect hovers over the pages under it.

    Sorry once again. I have also searched for hours how to change the size of the gap between the Posts (between right and left post as well as above and below posts).

    In the theme editor I found:

    .lp-blocks2 .lp-block i::before {
    border: 0;
    font-size: 28px;
    width: 3em;
    padding: 1em;
    }

    is this the right one? But when I change the 3em to 2em, nothing happens. Do I need put something before the code?

    Hi,
    WordPress does not provide an option for setting the default alignment mode for content images.
    Searching for information on this topic does reveal some old solutions which seem to no longer work in the current WordPress releases:

    I believe we have discussed this through the priority support service.

    For anyone else having the same question: featured images are only displayed in (posts) lists – blog, categories, archives, search results. On single post or page sections the images can be included in the content at the appropriate desired location.

    Separately, the theme is capable of using the featured image instead of the header image – this requires the activation of a general header image and large enough featured images (the size condition can be disabled, though).

    After quite a lot of searching around, I tried something that seems to solve the above issue.

    I’m using a Child Theme, so I had to go into the functions in the Parent Theme: in the file includes/core.php on line 499 I added the following $text = excerpt_remove_blocks( $text );

    This was added above this line: $text = strip_shortcodes( $text );

    I’m not fully fluent in WordPress (or PHP), but is there a way of acheiving this by adding something to the Child Theme?

    In reply to: 404 page

    I found a solution. I installed a plugin that is called 404page from the wordpress.org plugin repository. It lets you create a 404 page with whatever content you want in it. You can write whatever you want in any languages (or multipe ones if you wish)

    The 404 page is a personalised page that lets you put whatever you want to show when a user mistypes a page adress on you site. The roseta theme has one made as part of the theme but it is coded into the theme so One cannot change it’s content (unless there is a way i am not aware of). If you dont have one, you get a server error page which is less helpfull.

    Now the only thing left for me is the search. WHen you click on the search icon (the magnifying gass), you get an english text that says “To search type and press enter” and i would like to have that in french.

    More info – I don’t know if it’s helpful.

    On the admin side:
    – the customizer is not working. When I make certain adjustments, like toggle GENERAL > SOCIAL ICONS, the preview disappears.
    – also the search in the main menu doesn’t work anymore

    among other stuff I’m sure. Other useful info:

    – Hosted at GoDaddy
    – I’ve deleted and reinstalled my child theme (doesn’t seem to make a difference)
    – I’ve turned off all my plugins, no change

    What is going on? I don’t get it. Thanks for your help. kevin

    If you want to change the point at which your site switches from desktop to mobile nav, this is what worked for me based on the above:

    You cannot amend this using the custom CSS in wordpress, you have to amend the main Roseta stylesheet which you can find at $yourwebsite/wp-content/themes/roseta/style.css

    Make a copy of it on your server, then download it via FTP. To make the change search for all instances of 800px and replace 800 with whatever width you’d like the menu to change at. The best way I’ve found to find out the px size you need is using chrome.

    Right-click on the page, and click inspect which will open up the dev tools toolbar. Take chrome out of full-screen mode, then grab a side of the screen and start dragging it smaller. You will then see in the top right of the website window a width and height value appears. Drag the window smaller to see where you start to have issues, then use that value instead of 800.

    I hope that helps

    In reply to: Change Search Icon?

    Zed
    Cryout Creations mastermind

    1. The theme includes multiple looking class icons in its bundled icons set, unfortunately it does not include any binocular icons. You can see a list of available icons here:
    https://demos.cryoutcreations.eu/wp/esotera/wp-content/themes/esotera-plus/plus/resources/shortcodes/icons.php

    You can make the icon bold with CSS:
    .icon-search2::before { font-weight: 900; }

    2. You can also try adding the “Search” text next to the icon, but this text will not use the site’s configured font and may look slightly out of place:

    .icon-search2::before {
        content: "\e0a8 Search"; /* 2 spaces between the code and Search */
        margin-right: 2em;
        /* color: #color-code; */
    }

    3. The color depends on the overall configuration of the site. I have added the color customization in the CSS above, you’d need to fill in the right color code and uncomment the line to activate it.

    Your replies were saved, but because of containing code they got flagged for manual review.

    The value of the action parameter action="https://belaviva.com/" indicates that the form will always submit to the homepage. This is the same on both embedding locations, and the search form works as intended in both cases (confirmed by the presence of the search form parameters in the URL).

    On standard pages the plugin is able to override the output and display its own content (the search results), however on the homepage it cannot do this as the theme’s own landing page feature takes precedence.

    Thanks for the feedback, @Zed
    1. the shortcode works as expected on other pages e.g. https://belaviva.com/luxury-property/buy-luxury-property/
    2. the form code generated by the shortcode is as follows
    <form method="get" action="https://belaviva.com/"><input type="hidden" name="action" value="epl_search" /><input type="hidden" class="in-field field-width post_type" name="post_type" id="post_type" value="all" /><input type="hidden" class="in-field field-width property_status" name="property_status" id="property_status" value="" />
    So with the action set to the “homepage”, I’m guessing it’s doing something with the hidden parameters
    Thanks for any further input.

    Thanks for the pointer.
    1. the shortcode works as expected on other pages e.g. https://belaviva.com/luxury-property/buy-luxury-property/
    2. the generated form code is as follows

    <form method="get" action="https://belaviva.com/">
    <input type="hidden" name="action" value="epl_search" />
    <input type="hidden" class="in-field field-width post_type" name="post_type" id="post_type" value="all" />
    <input type="hidden" class="in-field field-width property_status" name="property_status" id="property_status" value="" />

    So it looks like it’s doing something with the hidden fields, I guess

    Does the site have a general header image set? The search page appears to indicate that it doesn’t.

    When a general header image is set, that image will be used on the blog section (this is a special section for which WordPress ignores any page attributes set on the placeholder page) and on the ‘portfolio’ section (which appears to be a standard posts archive, not a static page using Jetpack’s portfolio shortcodes).
    The featured image in the header functionality is only available for individual posts and individual static pages that display their actual content (and are not placeholders).

    The ‘hide post and page’ titles only refers to single post and single page sections. It has no effect anywhere else on the site. To hide titles for sections in the landing page custom CSS can be used:

    #lp-text-two h2.lp-text-title {
        display: none;
    }

    The number of posts displayed in posts lists (on the homepage, in search results, in categories, so on) is controlled by WordPress’ general reading options: https://wordpress.com/support/settings/reading-settings/

    That depends on the search form markup that’s outputted by the shortcode – specifically the action parameter, which can either be empty (meaning self) or be a specific URL.

    Does the shortcode work as expected inside other pages?
