I can’t seem to get rid of this box and text.I had previously tried Kahuna and Tempera – I think I added that line in Tempera. I could switch back to Tempera, delete the line, and then return to Parabola, but will this leave all my Parabola settings intact?

November 11th, 2025 at 22:02 #155742Topic: Site title and description
in forum How ToHello
Somewhere down the line I lost my site title and description and social icons on my presentation page/home page. In th Parabola settings under Header settings, I have still selected “site title and description” in the Site Header field. So what can be the problem? Could it be that by accident I have changed something in the costumizer setting that are provided by WordPress, instead of the special Parabola settings in the dashboard?
I doubt it but I cannot find what could be the problem.June 13th, 2025 at 00:00 #153766In reply to: Parabola Conflict with The Events Calendar Plug-In
Thank you for asking. This turns out to be not so much a bug as a question of conflicting features. It turns out that if you use the controls in your excellent Parabola Settings system to set the total width to an unusually narrow value, the The Events Calendar silently shifts to smart phone mode and does not display the expected front-side controls based on the settings selected for The Events Calendar. This appeared to be a bug in your theme because changing to a different theme made the problem go away, but that’s only because by changing to a different theme also turned off the display settings for Parabola. If there is a bug here, I’d say it’s on The Events Calendar side for not better documenting this issue, but they were at least very helpful with tracing the issue. So, sorry to bother you with this issue but thank you for following up.

Cryout Creations mastermindThe December/January updates address the XSS issue for all our classic themes:
- Mantra 3.3.3
- Parabola 2.4.2
- Tempera 1.8.3
- Nirvana 1.6.4
If you’re still running older releases, please update to (at least) these versions to silence the vulnerability alerts.

May 8th, 2025 at 22:20 #153304I have also received similar alerts from Jetpack recently, especially related to the Parabola theme. At first, I wasn’t sure whether it was something serious or just a false positive.
I run a blog (https://thegamespike.com) that uses Parabola for one of the sections, and though I haven’t seen any actual impact on the front end, it’s definitely something I’m keeping an eye on.
I appreciate the response from Zed and the team. It’s good to know updates are being rolled out gradually — especially for those of us running long-standing content sites. Just hoping the patch reaches all themes soon.
Thanks again for the transparency and detailed clarification.

Power UserGood morning.
Recognising that this isn’t a priority (for the the very good reasons given earlier in the thread by Mr Z), could you confirm when the next upgrade for Parabola to address this ‘issue’ is likely to arrive?
Regardless of circumstances, we’ll be hardening the sanitization around the several get_the_author() function calls used in our themes, but since this issue is considered low severity/priority even by the patchstack.com report, we’ll be addressing it in the regular1 theme updates cycle as we get to them1 – for example, the correction is already present in the Bravada 1.1.3 update released yesterday.

Power UserAha, I am glad I am not the only one having troubles. Unfortunately, I am not a developer, only manage a few sites (free) for clubs/associations of which I am a member and for myself. Since the latest php and wordpress updates, I have been having problems with plug ins that have always worked (ninja forms, Stripe payments in Events manager, etc.). Their managers say it is not a problem with the plugin, probably with my theme (parabola) compatibility. What to do if no replies? Sigh…

Power UserI an only a hobby user and not a programmer so cannot help you unfortunately but I have had a similar problem in Parabola for a couple of weeks now. I too have been happily using Parabola for our astronomy club’s website for eons and until recently, it has worked fine on all platforms. The desktop version is fine, responsiveness and zoom are enabled as they have been for years. Now, in mobile, our main/presentation page is dropping the third column. On normal pages with a right sidebar, the main content has been radically shortened in width, not readable and lots of white space right, while the sidebar content, which is now displayed below the white space, looks normal. I have touched nothing that I can think of to cause this.
I have tried disabling plugins (and no new plug ins have been added recently/ since it was working) but so far that has not helped either, so I don’t think that is the problem. Our hosting provider has recently updated everyone to a new version of wordpress and new php version – so I am guessing that is what the problem is, especially in light of your post. I have sent in a support request but no answer as yet (it has only been hours – not complaining). To be continued…

in forum BugsI’m trying to use a sitewide notification, and several plugins can display beautifully on desktop but not on mobile. I thought perhaps Parabola (which I’ve been using for eons, bought way back) was too old to handle the hook so I tried Bravada, but it did not display on mobile either. However Twenty Twenty Four displays the message on mobile, so it’s not an issue of faulty plugins. Can anyone help me to get this visible on mobile? Thanks!

November 8th, 2021 at 01:15 #123430In reply to: Which theme do you suggest?
Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindHi,
Due to changes in requirements implemented by the WordPress.org themes directory some years ago, all our themes since then are different from the ones before (which we call classic themes – Mantra, Nirvana, Parabola and Tempera), specifically in the settings configuration and how the themes’ homepage (presentation page) works.
Additionally, all the newer themes have slightly different layouts and designs and are not quite like the classic four (we didn’t want to just recreate the classic themes with the new requirements).
As such, we cannot point to a direct replacement for a classic theme from the newer set. The choice is a matter of design and functionality. If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.
Please check the available documentation and search the forums before starting a topic.September 20th, 2021 at 21:06 #121793I think I am experiencing the same issue with version 2.4.0.1 of the Parabola theme. I have a primary navigation with 6 top level items. Each of the top level items is both a link to a page as well as a parent menu to a list of other links. On mobile I don’t see a way to access those other links.
On mobile when I expand the hamburger menu the top level items do display a down arrow next to the menu. Tapping the text or the down arrow immediately navigates to the link. In previous versions of the theme on mobile a tap would expand the menu and not immediately navigate to the top level link destination. I would at least expect a tap on the arrow to expand the menu.
On desktop the top level menus are correctly expanded on hover.
I am able to replicate the issue on desktop using dev tools and don’t see any JavaScript errors on the site. I am told this issue is not reproducible on an Android but can not verify because the issue was first reported to me on iOS and I am also on iOS but was able to see it on iOS and the dev tools in my desktop browser.

Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindHi,
Parabola’s caption colors are not directly configurable. The selectable caption options use predefined appearances. To tweak them you’ll need to rely on custom CSS:
body #content .wp-caption { background-color: #123; color: #456; }If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.

Cryout Creations mastermindHi,
Parabola does not have this functionality built-in, but you can add custom content (such as a link to your blog page) by customizing the
content/content-frontpage.phpfile (preferably via a child theme). If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.

Cryout Creations mastermindHi,
If the site is using the theme’s social icons functionality (this can also be implemented using a separate plugin), you’ll find the configuration controls in the theme’s settings page, under Appearance > Parabola Settings.

Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindHi,
Any styling/layout issues you may be seeing after updating an older install to 2.4.0 are probably due to using a child theme that will require updating for some code changes.
There should be no issues observed if you’re not using a child theme.Previously, Parabola was using an action hooked into the
wp_headhook to enqueue all its styles.
Version 2.4.0 changes these enqueues to the properwp_enqueue_scriptshook.If your child theme still uses the previous hook, then the necessary styles (main, options-generated, mobile and child theme’s) will be loaded in the incorrect order, causing default styles to override configured and custom ones. You will need to update the code in the child theme to be similar to the example below:
// enqueue parent theme styling function child_parent_styling(){ wp_enqueue_style( 'parabola-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css', array(), _CRYOUT_THEME_VERSION ); // restore correct parent stylesheet wp_enqueue_style( 'parabola-child', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css', array( 'parabola-style' ), '20210312' ); // enqueue child } add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts','child_parent_styling');The style identifier
parabola-styleshould be present exactly with this name as there are secondary styles enqueued conditionally after it.If you are using our NoLink child theme, an updated version is available for download in the customer account.

If you have any CSS in the Parabola MISCELLANEOUS SETTINGS, try taking it out and putting it in the WordPress Customiser Additional CSS. Cleared a few glitches for me..

Power UserUpdate on the Menu Question:
It turns out that the menu has more problems.
1.) Using a computer with a monitor I discovered that the menu will extend out of the window. So not all of it is readable/available. The way to overcome this problem is to make the window narrow so that the little ‘hamburger’ icon appears. Then the full menu is available…under the caveats mention in the first post on this subject (above).
2.) On larger screens the number if menu items is limited by the fact that if there are a large number they will form two rows…and the bottom rows will cover the first entry from the menu item above it. I have played with the menu and modified it so that there is only one row. Unfortunately, I have to hide the site icon in order to get the menu all the way to the left. If I could do that, it would probably work much like the menu in Mantra. I don’t want to remove the site icon, since everyone knows that clicking on it will return to the home page.None of this is acceptable. I have put a ton of time into making Fluida work, only now I discover that the menu system is highly flawed. I am really glad I did not purchase the Plus version.
So far: Mantra has the best menu system of the themes I have used. I don’t like Verbosa’s system. (see https://foreverstone.alwaysrejoicing.com and you’ll know why.) Parabola had a good system, but it won’t work on certain iPhones. Now Fluida’s menu system is highly flawed.
The time spent implementing Fluida is not totally wasted, as I learned much about themes from the process. So, I guess I’ll have to search for another theme. Ultimately, this is my fault. I should have spent more time testing the menu system before I chose to implement the theme. Lesson Learned.

Power UserHi Zed,
You’re wondering why I’d want to have more than one Posts Page. Here’s why:
My website is where I publish my short stories, essays and poetry. The perfect thing would be for me to have a different “look” for each category. For example, the picture in the Short Story header, the background, etc. would be different. One for stories, one for essays, and so forth.
I actually thought about having a different sub-domain for each one, but that means lots of extra maintenance, I think.
Fluida has the option in the PLUS version to have different templates for pages. I think this means that these templates make it easier to design pages like “Log In” or “About Always Rejoicing” or such. Now, this is probably a WordPress.org question, but, after reading your answer, I’m wondering if I could set up a page with a template and a widget that would display the “Poetry” category…??? The “BLOCKS” on the Landing Page do this. I’ve set up my test site with the category “Favorites” and now I can have a block on the Landing Page that displays the stories in my “Favorites” category. I really, really like that very much.
Parabola has the “Categories” widget that I use as a menu device. But the Blocks in Fluida work so much better. (BTW…it’s because Parabola has problems on the iPhones that I started searching for another theme. I’m sure you’ll fix it. But I began to realize that my design looked dated. That started me searching for the ‘perfect’ theme for me.)
I wish I could test the PLUS version, but I understand that if I download the theme and it ‘does not fit’ I can’t ‘return’ it like I would a shirt or jeans.
It looks like I will have to subscribe to the extra support, as I’m starting to produce a ton of questions.
Thanks for answering my question.
Rejoice Always!
