    I’m having the same trouble. I added the following first to the CSS in WordPress, and then I deleted it and added it in under the Miscellaneous settings for Mantra Custom CSS. I’m getting a large white space with a little grey box in the middle of it. Thanks!

    /*
    I added the next line to get rid of Mantra Theme’s slider. Delete to get it back for presentation page.
    */
    .slider-wrapper {
    display: none;
    }

    Yes I added .slider-wrapper { display: none; } to the custom css.

    You can see the problem here: http://www.gainmarketing.co.uk
    The white space between the header and the columns is way too big.

    Yes I added .slider-wrapper { display: none; } to the custom css.

    You can see the gap issue here: http://www.gainmarketing.co.uk there is too large a space between the title and the columns starting.

    Not being a shop owner, I never even thought to use a carteogy page for a special/theme page. Nice!There is also a way to do this with just css. Using your same technique to output the categories where you have:$output .= ”;I altered it to$output .= ”;It takes some inspecting to see what the carteogy id is, but then in your stylesheet you could do something likeli.menu_cat_45 { display: none }Also handy for styling/highlighting certain categories differently!

    When creating posts manually write the excerpt in the Excerpt field. It will be displayed exactly as written in (including manual HTML).

    There’s no easy way to hide just the excerpts from the slider. But you can hide the captions completely on mobile devices:

    @media (max-width: 1100px) {
    body.mobile .theme-default .nivo-caption { display: none; }
    }
    @media (max-width: 800px) {
    .theme-default .nivo-caption { display: none; }
    }

    I want a home page that does not display posts as well as a SEPARATE blog page that does. Is that possible with this version of Parabola?

    Hi,

    Another user here where the Mantra Settings won’t pulldown or otherwise display. I have just now installed and activated Mantra (v2.3.0) and am using WordPress 3.1.4, since that is the one provided by my host provider as the latest version that’s stable with their PHP server.

    The response to Question D6 notes the following:
    “If you are using WordPress older than 3.5, please update to the latest version. If you cannot update, use Mantra 1.9.9.7 or wait for 2.0.4 to be released (which will include a compatibility layer).”

    This sounds like v2.3.0 should have the compatibility layer, too, so my WP 3.1.4 should not be a problem. Yet here I am, stuck.

    Is this still a situation where plugins might be an issue? I’m using Firefox.

    Hi Michael

    I’m not that savvy either but I have a couple of suggestions that could be used within the standard settings…

    1. You could increase the number of displayed posts (from 10) on the presentation page within presentation page settings.
    2. You could create a custom footer menu that links to a blog page and change its navigation label to something like “View more posts…”
    3. Perhaps use magazine layout which would show 2 columns of posts.

    I hope these help

    Jim…

    Zed,

    Thank you for the reply. Does this mean that I must have the presentation page display the latest posts, or is there a work-around? I want a home page that does not display posts as well as a separate blog page that does.

    Thanks for your help.

    Additionally, you can’t have separate icons between areas; all areas will display the same configured social icons.

    It’s easier to hide the slider by leaving the content (slide fields) empty.
    Alternatively, use this CSS to hide the slider container so it doesn’t take up space anymore:
    .slider-wrapper { display: none; }

    You can’t display both the logo and site title/tagline simultaneously without quite a bit of code editing.
    Use a dev tool like Firebug to inspect the title and tagline and figure out the necessary tags.

    Centering will be quite tricky though (especially if you also want to keep responsiveness working).

    I see no overlapping images, but I see quite a bit of disarray, caused by the huge differences in the sizes of the images.

    Try to keep the images (about) the same size, or arrange them in a grid (using a table or a gallery plugin).

    That is correct. And is explained in the 1.2.2 release notes:

    Parabola 1.2.2 changelog

    • presentation page now displays latest posts by default (requested by WordPress); this can be disabled in the theme settings
    • presentation page no longer overrides static page (requested by WordPress); make sure you don’t select a static page under Settings > Reading or you will no longer see the presentation page

    Hi Marc

    When you create a page there is an option under Page Attributes where you can select a template called Blog Template (posts page). If you choose this it should display all your posts in the page. Then within Parabola Settings you can decide if you want them displayed as excerpts or full posts

    I hope this helps

    Jim..

    Hi Diane,

    I am not a Mantra expert but here are some hints that might help get you started while you wait for responses from Cryout:

    – to change the header font, you need to go into the Mantra Settings->Text Settings->General font: change the font family to something more exciting. If that doesn’t change the header font, you will need to go into the .css stylesheet and look around for the header entry and change the “font-family:” parameter. OR better yet add Custom CSS into the box found at Mantra Settings-> Miscellaneous Settings-> Custom CSS . If you do that, it will be saved when you ever go to update Mantra. Google “Change Mantra header font family” for more specific coding help.

    – get rid of the double column, so that your slider is above one or multiple columns of text boxes and there is no empty frame above the first column: try the Mantra Settings -> Layout Settings -> Main Layout: One column, no sidebar
    then: the picture can be used as the single custom slide in the slider, and the columns below the slider can be used to display the text boxes. If you want to post new posts on Presentation page, I think you can do that too, but I don’t know how.

    – I don’t see any white space in the slider…is your slider just the picture of you? Looks fine, albeit horizontally stretched.

    Good luck!

    Hi, I have just commented on another page before I saw this section sorry.

    I really like the theme but I would like to change the refine search on the category pages to display 5 thumbs instead of 4.

    Thank you

    Kami

    I am using Parabola. Is there css that can be added so that the title is suppressed but the description is displayed?

    What I want to suppress is “Category Archives: Category-Name”.

    I have inspected the core files and found the code under mantra/admin:
    main.php line 220

    add_settings_field(‘mantra_socials5’, __(‘Link nr. 5′,’mantra’) , ‘cryout_setting_socials5_fn’, __FILE__, ‘socials_section’);
    add_settings_field(‘mantra_socials6’, __(‘Link nr. 6′,’mantra’) , ‘cryout_setting_socials6_fn’, __FILE__, ‘socials_section’);
    add_settings_field(‘mantra_socials7’, __(‘Link nr. 7′,’mantra’) , ‘cryout_setting_socials7_fn’, __FILE__, ‘socials_section’);
    add_settings_field(‘mantra_socialshow’, __(‘Socials display’,’mantra’) , ‘cryout_setting_socialsdisplay_fn’, __FILE__, ‘socials_section’);

    settings.php line 1990

    // TEXTBOX – Name: ma_options[social5]
    function cryout_setting_socials5_fn() {
    cryout_setting_social_master(9);
    }
    // TEXTBOX – Name: ma_options[social6]
    function cryout_setting_socials6_fn() {
    cryout_setting_social_master(11);
    }
    // TEXTBOX – Name: ma_options[social7]
    function cryout_setting_socials7_fn() {
    cryout_setting_social_master(13);

    That all works in the settings, but where do I change the actual page (presentation page, sidebar, page, etc so the extra icons show up live?

    Thanks,
    Andy

    sounds like it may be an issue with permalinks. If you have set permalinks to friendly URL but the htaccess file doesn’t update, the friendly links won’t open. On a post page you can find the ‘short link’, see if that loads ok and if so, check your settings > permalinks.

    Karin, the nav above code didn’t work for me at first either – nothing happened. but then I put “!important” after it and it worked! maybe it will work for you too.

    #nav-above { display: none !important; }

    The presentation page does not display sidebar(s).
    You can see the sidebars just fine on other pages.

    The initial question was about category descriptions.
    That’s category titles:
    body.category .page-header { display: none; }
    They can also be hidden via the appropriate theme option.
