In reply to: Remove border from slider and pres page columns
Jim
Hi Liz
Sorry I think I fed you some wrong information. The easiest thing to do with the slider border is to set its colour to transparent. You can do this within Parabola Settings > Color Settings > Presentation Page the just leave the field for Slider Border Color empty. I’ll do some more research and get back to you about the column borders.
I hope this helps

Alex
Yes when you upload a picture wordpress makes different sizes, 4 I think.
you can see them /wp-content/uploads/2013/10 (my uploads Are filed with year/month folders) wacky sizes indeed.I think it reads the image dimensions from the file info and then multiplies by some factor like .8 or something. WordPress does this automatically when you upload an image, so if you change image size when you select an image to use the file already exists. When you select an image to use from media images and edit it there is a check box for size and then a button that says use this image.
In Dashboard–>Settings –> Media you set the image sizes.
example Thumbnail 150×150
Medium 300×300
Large 600×600
When you upload image it needs to be the size you set, if not when it is cropped or resized it may not be perfect.
I play it safe.. for each media image I create 3 images with exact dimensions.
imagethumbnail150x150.jpg
imagemedium300x300.jpg
imagelarge600x600.jpgFor some images you can hover over the question mark ?, and it may have the recommended image size ( like slider and column images)
Default content width is 1050, so slider image default size is 1050 x 350
Column images arre 308×308
You can always change the image sizes but you must make sure all settings regarding image sizes are equal to the actual image dimensions.developer @ uquitsmoking.info

Alex
Check your image sizes.
Simple test..Change content width to 1400 if you can see images in full you will need to tweak image sizes and/or content width
For three columns the default width is 308×308 with a layout setting content width of 1050 ..the math doesnt work because the padding on sides of and between images.
You either need to increase content width or image width. I think for 4 columns I tried image width 230 pixels with a content width of 1050.developer @ uquitsmoking.info

Hi William and Tracy,
I was also facing the same problem but after going through the below url
:
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/breadcrumbs-how-to-show-home-instead-of-blog-title-in-the-breadcrumbs/I fixed it by doing the below mentioned changes:
1. Open the file named “theme-functions.php”
2. Search for the line:
echo ‘‘.get_bloginfo(‘name’).’ » ‘;
And replace it with
echo ‘Home » ‘;And after saving the changes. You will be able to have Home instead of Site title on your website.

Hi
You can only add footer widgets, not sidebars, to the presentation page (make sure they aren’t checked in the Hide Areas section).
Perhaps put your table short code in the visual editor within a WP page or post then use the indent tool to centre it (which adds left padding). Then use the text tab and copy the code into the Extra Text field, and adjust the padding value if needed.
Hope this helps

Brian Siano
I’m having a similar problem on my Presentation Page. The main slider’s only displaying one or two posts, and I’d prefer to have it display roughly 5-7 posts.
I’ve tried the fix Kay described above, but it doesn’t seem to help.

Also, how do I add share buttons to the pages? I tried, but they don’t show up correctly on my posts. Any help in this department would be appreciated as well.

Hi there Jim, Many thanks I have tried to substitute H2 for the H1 but it just becomes very small and justified to the left. But I will keep trying. I am wondering where I find the definitions of H1 H2 etc. Perhaps I need to change one of these?
Its a good theme and I am going to persevere.

I tried these steps and the slider still has the spinning circle. I also don’t know why my posts keep disappearing. This is my fourth time posting here about this. I’m glad I didn’t send my $25.00 because this thing just isn’t working.

Where should the custom CSS be added? I placed it in the Custom CSS field in your porabola template, saved, but the category labels still appear:
Miscellaneous Settings >
/* Parabola Custom CSS */
#content .category-archive-meta { display: none; }Example: http://avanteideas.com/just4fun/category/minecraft/
You’ll see the “Category Archives: Minecraft” label just above the post.October 9th, 2013 at 13:33 #12880In reply to: Changing Font Justification in Slider
Jim
Hi Mark
You could try this (see link below), I presume you are using custom slides? I tried it for the slider text and it did justify the text to the right, and using the indent tool as well pushed it further.
It will work for the text area but not the title.http://www.cryoutcreations.eu/forums/t/presentation-page-text-areas

Hi
Sorry..please ignore what I said above
“As long as you put a copy of the folder, with the path. within your child theme you should be OK, they should not get overwritten by a theme update i.e. Parabola-child/images/socials”
I tried it out and it didn’t work as I thought, I suspect you’ll possibly need some change to the theme-functions.php file, but I’m not sure exactly what.

Janouk
Hi Guys,
I’m using WordPress for the first time and I use the Parabola theme (i really like the slider on the presentation page/homepage).
I have a blog, and I want my readers to be able to click on ‘previous page’ and ‘next page’, so they can have a look around. But this doesn’t show up on my blog (my blog is not online yet, just local). I added a plugin called “WP-PageNavi” but the previous and next button doesn’t show up. Can anyone help me out? Then I have another problem: on my homepage (where al my blogposts will be shown), i want a left sidebar with, for example, a ‘categories’ widget. I have installed this, but it’ll be only show up at the other menu pages, but not on the presentation page/homepage. Does anyone know how i can fix it?
I’m sorry, my English is not very good 🙂

Hi Valerie
There is nothing is the Parabola Settings so has to be done via custom CSS at:
#front-text1 h1, #front-text2 h1.
Just a note, I changed mine but then had an issue with responsiveness see here:

Hi
That’s good to hear, there were a couple of slider widths of 600px and 640px showing earlier which led me to the plug in. They aren’t showing now so hopefully all should be well.
Cheers

October 7th, 2013 at 14:27 #12846In reply to: Adding widgets
Jim
Hi
When you say your home page I assume you mean the Parabola Presentation page, if that’s the case then I assume you are referring to the Extra Text boxes under the 3 columns (which can be up to 4 if needed), the extra text areas go across the full width and one above the other?
To modify these text boxes you’d need to do some custom CSS coding to the [#frontpage blockquote] area in your stylesheet.
However it might be a lot easier just to not use the Extra text areas at all and just use Footer Text Widgets.I hope this helps…

Hi
Go to Parabola Settings then to Social Media Settings then at the bottom uncheck all the options, or you can just blank all the fields for Facebook etc i.e. remove the # sign.
I hope this helps

I love this Theme! But i have this same issue where the sidebar widgets do not appear. I have tried -Zed “The header should become transparent by simply leaving the background colour field empty (this trick works even in Mantra on all background colours). There’s no need to edit files for this..” But, still no joy!. Any help would be appreciated.

Cryout Creations mastermindImage crops are created by WordPress, not by the theme. The theme can only request particular sizes, not crop viewpoints.
So this functionality needs to be added by WordPress. If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.

Cryout Creations mastermind1) There’s a checkbox for that in the Header Settings.
2) You’re no longer using the slider/presentation page so I can’t see this.

Cryout Creations mastermindYou should not make changes to the theme files. Use translations instead.
And leave the link fields blank for the menu items meant to be placeholders.

Cryout Creations mastermindThat message only means trouble if it remains displayed after the page has completed loading (a couple of seconds?).
If it remains visible, then you’re having javascript issues (most likely caused by some plugin installed in your WordPress).See here for a step-by-step guide to debugging.
