PayPal uses simple HTML to create a single function button (Donate for example) to link back to an account but if you want a PayPal pay button with choose-the-item options, they now using Javascript. I would like to inject the PayPal generated Javascript into a Mantra sidebar widget. Custom Text widget doesn’t work, so any ideas appreciated.

As far as I know it should be straightforward to add JavaScript to the widget area. I recommend installing the Classic Widgets plugin first, which will restore the old style widgets page. Then drag a Custom HTML widget into the sidebar area and paste your JavaScript into it, between <script> and </script> tags. It should just work.
