My wordpress site has been hacked twice now, recently. (WordFence is a lifesaver.) I’m trying to figure out why, and I’m basically a n00b at this. Some of what I’ve read say that themes that aren’t kept up to date can be a vulnerability. So, my Tempera theme is completely up to date, however, I was wondering if there will be more updates in the future? From what research I’ve done so far, it says that “forgotten” themes that are no longer being updated regularly can be vulnerable as well, and then I came on here and saw that Tempera was last updated in 2019 and figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. For now, I’ve temporarily changed the theme to a basic WordPress theme until I figure out where I’m vulnerable, and I miss Tempera. Lol. Thank you!

Tempera (and our other settings-based themes) have reached their feature and functionality maturity and we consider them complete. We are now updating them only when necessary to fix identified bugs or improve compatibility with new WordPress releases.
We are currently working on a Tempera update to address some necessary changes to improve compatibility and fix some issues with WordPress 5.6 and 5.7.
While security issues can never be dismissed, WordPress.org repository themes are limited in the functionality they can implement.
On the other hand, plugins are free to implement any functionality and don’t go through a thorough review process before getting published to the corresponding plugins repository.
