When I try to add media in a page I get an ‘Add Media’ screen and the mean compartment is blank with no files in it only a button which says ‘select files’ which brings me to an upload screen.
what to do?

This is most likely not caused by the theme.

Did you try to see if the issue goes away if you switch to one of the default Twenty-something themes?
