1.  How can I keep the formatting of the blog post on the excerpt on the home page? When I lose the bullets and numbering, and stuff like that, it doesn’t look good on the home page…

2.  I have the blog as my home page, and is there a way to put some sort of text box above the first blog post that shows on the home page, so I can put some sort of welcome message?

1. Use HTML in your excerpts…

2. Perhaps setting a post (with the message) sticky would help you achieve that.
