I’ve been looking all over trying to determine what size images I need to use for featured images in posts, but all I can find is information on thumbnail size, as well as small, medium and large images in Settings > Media. For Nirvana, what size does a featured image need to be, or is it variable? If variable, are there maximums in width and/or height? I was able to determine that the image on the Post With Featured Image demo for Nirvana has an image size of 255 x 191, if I’m remembering it correctly. That’s what makes me think that maybe there is some fluidity in featured image sizes. If you find these questions mystifying, please be aware that I’m completely blind. I don’t know much about graphics, so any info would be welcome.

The posts’ featured images size is configurable in the theme’s Featured Images options section (in the theme’s settings page – Appearance > Nirvana Settings).
If you haven’t changed these, the default values are 250 pixels width and 150 pixels height.WordPress is capable of automatically generating crops/resizes to these values when uploading files to the media library if you use larger images so there is no real need to use images of exact size. If the cropping returns improperly focused images, the cropping itself can be disabled from the same theme options (telling WordPress to only shrink the images to fit in the configured values).

Please check the available documentation and search the forums before starting a topic.On further research, I found out that Nirvana only displays featured images as thumbnails in the post excerpt, not in the main post. I thought this would be a problem, but it turns out that displaying my image in the main post is just a matter of inserting it. WordPress nicely sizes the image to appear within the content area. I have it on good, sighted authority (my beautiful wife) that the theme does a very nice job wrapping the post excerpt around the thumbnail, so there’s that, and that’s awesome.
