In reply to: presentation page
James
Hello,
I am writing about an issue I am having with the Parabola “Presentation Page” settings on our Web site. The issue we are having is with the column graphics on the “Presentation Page” when the Web site is viewed on a mobile or iPad device when rotated.
The presentation page has several segments that make up the page: Header, footer, slides, and presentation page columns. We currently have the settings set to show one of five different graphics displaying in the center “Slides” graphical element on the presentation/home page of the site. Beneath that main graphic element, there is a section labeled “Presentation Page Columns.” We currently have that option set to show three of the four available graphic items in the presentation page column settings under theme appearance.
So, the issue is when the iPad (or cellphone) is in the portrait display mode. In this mode the Web page Center graphic resizes and displays the images properly; however, the three graphic elements below it do not. They wrap instead of resizing? When the iPad or phone is rotated back to landscape mode everything displays again as expected.
It seems that the “Slides” section of the presentation/home page has an attribute applied to it that causes the “Slides” element to resize the displayed content based on the orientation/page size of a device. But, the “Presentation Page Columns” placeholder section does not seem to have this same/similar attribute and wraps the the graphics instead of resizing them.
Is this a bug or feature? Please advise.
Thank you!

Can I install the Cryout Serious Theme Settings plugin with the Tempera them version 1.3.3 (WordPress 4.4.1) without influencing on my other changes/settings?
I have same problem, settings are not shown. Only “Reset to Default” and “Save Changes” are displayed.
Unfortunately I don’t dare to update the theme, as I have changed quite a few settings without using child theme, so I guess all these settings will disappear if I update the theme, right?January 20th, 2016 at 05:36 #35283In reply to: Settings not loading

Thanks a lot Zed, I fixed it.
Yes Yuri, you need to cut the photos so they are as big as the slider. I changed the slider’s settings to more height as with a narrower one the “read more” button was not displayed. If the slider is wide enough (600px in my case), text and button are displayed.

Thank you for trying to help.
Terry, this is what I have right now.
#site-description {
display:block;
float: left;
font-size: 15px;
margin-top: 12px;
padding:6px 12px 6px 0;
color: #0000ff;
}Per Zed’s note, I did try just
#site-description {
color: #0000ff;
}Neither seem to be responding very well. Is it possible the issue is something with the header (color) or image I am using?
January 16th, 2016 at 19:53 #35246In reply to: How to remove or edit Widget Column?
Ken
Hello Zed, I am not too sure. I didn’t make any changes in the editor with the widgets. The three I am using are currently sitting in both the footers and Presentation Page within the Widgets tab. If I choose “Latest Posts” however for Columns Content, it won’t display the widgets in the Presentation area. When I choose “Widget Columns” though the Posts underneath (and footer) disappear.
It does sound like a layout/html issue but am not too sure how to fix it. To find errors breaking the layout, would I need to look for something specific within the Editor/HTML?
(Does the $25 donation provide tech support to look further into this?)

Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindIn Nirvana, the column images and the titles are links.
If you have text in your columns, the text areas that overlap the images are not links.Using theme options you can adjust the columns to display the text areas below the column images, so these are also clickable.

Cryout Creations mastermindDisplays posts on the presentation page (below the columns) can be disabled from the theme’s presentation page settings.
To create a separate blog section, assign the theme’s Blog page template to a page.

What if we don’t want our posts to be visible on the presentation page? Will this be changed back to what it was before? That was one of the reasons I selected this template – I don’t want my posts to display on the presentation page. Thank you for any guidance you can offer on whether this will be changed or not.

Zed / Cryout Creations, My front page is set to latest posts. The issue in this thread is about slider not showing. The presentation page is showing and set to ‘latest posts’. See the title of this thread. There is a separate thread started for the entire presentation page issue. So, is there a fix for those of us that are not having an issue with the presentation page being displayed, but sliders not showing up on the presentation page, & throughout the entire site? I have submitted support forms for this as well, with no response in almost 3 days.

Cryout Creations mastermindThat styling has nothing to do with text areas visibility (or not).
The third text area is displayed below the posts (right before the footer).

Cryout Creations mastermindYour slides are different sizes. Two are 1920×480, one is 1701×480 and one 267×400 (!).
They are also displayed via Jetpack’s Photon feature (which we know to cause issues with our slider).Adjust their sizes and disable Photon and check if the issue still occurs.

Cryout Creations mastermindTempera previously had a bug by which it displayed the presentation page (minus some styling) even when a static page was set as the homepage.
WordPress theme guidelines request that setting a static page takes precedence over theme settings, so we have corrected this in 1.4.0.1.For the presentation page to be visible, the Frontpage displays option need to be set to Your latest posts.
Edit: Please see page 2 for more in-depth information.

Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindParabola does not display a pagination for the presentation page posts.
We will not be adding a pagination (what happens to the non-posts presentation page contents – slider, columns – on subsequent pages?) but we may add a dynamic “load more posts” in a future version (similar to Tempera and Nirvana).If you like our creations, help us share by rating them on WordPress.org.

Hello Zed.
If you look at my site originally (http://tipsykat.com/tp/), you can see under the large image I first have my 3 widgets, and then under that are the posts with the first paragraph previewed. (Under Presentation Page in appearance Columns Content is set as “Widget Columns.”
On the current version of the site however, if I select Widget Columns, it will only show the widgets and cut the page off right there (http://goingwiththepitch.com/). I can not get the posts to be displayed under them. When I chose columns content “Latest Posts” I can then get them to preview, but then the widgets only display on my footer.
I am hoping to take the format I have on the first site, and apply it to the 2nd site. I am just not sure what the difference in settings is that is causing the discrepancy.
thanks!

Thank you Zed so much for trying to help. It is greatly appreciated.
So I put in a “;” as you suggested, and on a test site that worked. I am not sure if there is a bug though on the Tempera. I put this code in:
#site-description {
display:inline;
float: left;
font-size: 15px;
margin-top: 18px;
padding:6px 6px 6px 0;
text-color: #0000ff;
clear:both;Per my research this should be blue, but it is remaining as a light gray. (http://goingwiththepitch.com/)
Should the “clear:both;” be there? Is it maybe the color background I chose?
(Lastly, how should I be reading the padding of 6px 6px 6px 0″?

I’m just another Tempera user, but I hope I can help shed some light on this issue, and what I did to “solve” it.
According to the changelog for v1.4.0.1….
Changelog:
v1.4.0.1
Fixed presentation page overriding static frontpage (and malfunctioning as a result)I noticed my website’s presentation page had gone missing, and did this to fix it:
1. Go to WordPress admin> Settings> Reading. Set “Front page displays” to “Your Latest Posts” (this should allow your Presentation Page to work).
2. If you have a page you use for your blog/news posts, edit that page’s “Page Attributes” to use the “Blog Template (Posts Page)” template.
3. If you had your “Home” page in your Custom Menu, be sure to change the menu item to a “Custom Link” with your Home page URL. Just leaving the old menu link will result in a menu link to “yourdomain.com/home” which is probably not what you want.So, to sum up:
There is no need to revert to the previous version of Tempera. v1.4.0.1 works fine, it you just need to change a few settings. 🙂I do not understand what the problem or bug was that needed to be “fixed” regarding the “Static Page” versus “Presentation Page” conflict in the previous version — It had been working fine for me. To me this “fix” creates a situation which is not very intuitive for setup in the WordPress Settings. And, a bit cumbersome to remedy on existing websites 🙁

I managed to figure out a temporary solution that seems to work. It seems it has something to do with “The front page displays” option.
Under settings -> Reading I had previously selected “A static page”. This doesn’t allow me to see my Presentation page anymore. However if I set it to “Your latest posts”, it allows me to see my Presentation page perfectly, with all the images.
If someone else has another solution, I’ll be more than happy to hear it.

Cryout Creations mastermindHow is the plugin adding the second bio? If it’s adding it separately, then it’s the plugin’s job to remove the original bio. Does it have such an option?
As a last resort you can hide the standard bio with CSS:

Zed
Cryout Creations mastermindPages (from WordPress’ perspective) are separate content than posts and have nothing to do with posts.
Those sections that display/list posts are category (pages). You can include a post in as many categories as you want. You can then display as many categories in your menus as you want as well.The theme’s features don’t replace WordPress basic functionality, but extend it.
