Parabola implements a lot of options, all of which are available in the theme’s settings page under Appearance > Parabola Settings.

If this is a fresh install you may need to install the companion settings plugin to enable the settings page (it’s all explained in there).

You’ll be able to enable the theme’s presentation page (what we call the special homepage) from under the Presentation Page section in the settings, change the layout from under Layout (you can also use a layout template for pages you want to look different than the general site layout), change colours from under Colors.

If by icons you’re referring to the social icons, their images are not changeable, but the background color is configurable (from the same theme options).

In Mantra the first sidebar is always used on single sidebar layouts (including page templates). The second sidebar only appears on two-sidebar layouts.

If you need different widgets depending on the section of the site viewed, I suggest using a widget visibility plugin (like Jetpack’s built-in support for this).

The slider is normally part of the theme’s landing page feature. If the landing page is not used, the slider is also not visible. Additionally, the landing page does not feature sidebar functionality.

If you want to use a slider and not use the landing page, you can install a slider plugin to include a slider in the page used as the homepage.

Nirvana has extra plugin interference protection which keeps bad plugins away, while Tempera doesn’t have this.
Try disabling your plugins to see which is causing the interference.

The “featured” image is the one set as “featured” in WordPress.

The theme has an additional option to select content image and use them as featured, but that sometimes depends on how the images were uploaded/inserted into the content (they need to be associated with the post).

Google fonts are automatically loaded from Google’s services (adding the files to the theme folder has no effect) and requires entering the correct font identifier in the field, for example:

• Cabin (standard) – enter “Cabin”
• Cabin Semi Bold – enter “Cabin:600” (600 is the semi-bold font weight)
• Cabin Bold – enter “Cabin:700”

You can get the correct identifier by selecting the desired font variant and looking for the embedding code on Google’s service site:

Your contact form uses tables with inline sizing. Tables are inherently not responsive (and setting sizes on them doesn’t help).
Try adding this custom styling:

Your featured images are not the same aspect ratio as the slider is. Either adjust the images to be the same aspect ratio with the slider or reconfigure the slider to the featured image sizes (you may need to regenerate your thumbnails to make sure the slider uses the new settings).
