You can completely customize the featured slides from the theme theme options page. You can also easily hide the slider from certain part of your site like:…
Wish css or php file can this be found in so as to edit it out? If the above is entered in google you will see it affects several sites.

Any help to get rid of this would be appreciated.

Just as the text itself says, you can change it from the theme settings.
Look under Presentation Page Settings.
