Until the update I had no problem with embed video. now I get an icon. can I undo your updates? things worked better before.

I also used to be able to publish to FB, twitter, it seems to not be anyplace or am I thinking of a different theme?

Publishing to social sites was never part of theme functionality (its not even part of WordPress). You most likely used a plugin for such functionality, and perhaps the same plugin was also handling your video embedding?
Were you perhaps using Jetpack?
