I have been using the excellent Nirvana theme for a site and I am just about to release it to the public, but a last issue is blocking me.
In my test development installation, everything seems to work appropriately with post excerpts. They show within the frontpage slider, in the frontpage blog summary an in search and category landing pages.
In my production install, excerpts don’t show anymore.
Both installs should run the same WordPress 5.1.1–it_IT and the same Nirvana 188.8.131.52. The PHP versions may differ (production is more advanced) and production uses https while test doesn’t.
Disabling plugins in production doesn’t help.
All posts are created with the Classic editor and the Standard format. If I change a post to another format, e.g. Quotation or Image, the post Full text is displayed (although the Nirvana setting says Excerpt) but not the featured image.
Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I just found out that the stated behaviour does not depend on Nirvana or any other specific theme.
It was caused by a string of blanks or nonprinting characters that somehow was introduced in all post_excerpt fields in the database as posts were copied from the test site to the production site.
Thus the post was deemed to have a manual excerpt but no output occurred as all blanks were stripped away.

As an additional bit of information, only standard posts follow the excerpt options in Nirvana. Post formats are always displayed in full (since they are intended to be used in specific instances).
