It’s just come to my attention that my blog roll is showing the full story on the first post; this is new – it didn’t used to happen and I have not changed anything. Here are my POST EXCERPT SETTINGS:

Home Page: Excerpt
Sticky Posts: Excerpt
Archive: Excerpt
Post Excerpt length: 120 words
Excerpt suffix: …
Continue reading: continue reading
HTML Tags: disable

Any idea how to fix this problem?

The first post is a specific post format (in your case – link). Post formats are always displayed in full because they are intended for very specific usage cases.

So, how do I change that – it did not used to do that – this is a new issue.

The theme has always worked this way, you might just have never applied post formats to your posts before.

While editing the post, you’ll find the format selector on the right column.

I figured out the problem yesterday. In the post itself, under FORMAT (right column in WordPress), LINK was selected instead of STANDARD. Not sure how that happened, but it did. With LINK selected, the entire post showed up on the blog roll – but only that post. I changed it back to STANDARD and the problem went away.

Indeed, you are correct – I have never selected those other formats.
