Tables do not respond to any style formatting

I have a grid of 6x 80px by 80px graphics. They SHOULD fit a 480px wide table. But TEMPERA “forces” a 2px top border, 10px bottom border and 15px border left and right. Even setting <table border=”0″ “cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0”> has zero effect on the layout. The table even extends out under the right widget bar!! I have tied <divs>, <iframes> and <objects>, (the latter two which now appear to be automatically removed by WordPress / theme!)

How can I get the images to rest up against each other? The table is actually generated via javascript.

I did read somewhere that tables are not set to a given width, but that it may be affected by having posts/pages set to a static width.I;ve looked through admin panel, but can see nowhere to adjust this
